Big Improvements Are Coming to Westminster High School's Memorial Stadium

Westminster Public Schools (WPS) is excited to announce the first phase of a modernization project for Memorial Stadium at Westminster High School (WHS) made possible through funding from the 2024 voter-approved bond. Over the next year, the district will introduce a state-of-the-art interactive scoreboard and modern LED stadium lighting, creating a more exciting and engaging experience for students, families, alumni, and the entire Westminster community. These improvements are designed to make every Friday night football game, soccer match, and community event more memorable for everyone who comes to Memorial Stadium.

Here's What's Coming

A Next-Level Scoreboard (Late Fall 2026)

The first major upgrade is a brand-new LED video scoreboard that will elevate the game-day experience for our students, families, and fans. Building on the capabilities of the video board currently used in the gym, the new scoreboard will provide opportunities for player introductions, team and school graphics, statistics, sponsor recognition, special announcements, and other engaging content that adds energy and school spirit to every event.

In its first year, the focus will be on developing high-quality content and building the staff and student experience needed to make the most of the new technology. As those capabilities grow, so will the possibilities for how the scoreboard can be used. From celebrating our student-athletes to recognizing special moments and engaging fans in the stands, this new addition will create a more dynamic atmosphere and an enhanced experience for our entire community.

Modern LED Stadium Lighting (Starting December 2026)

The second phase includes replacing the stadium's lighting system with modern, energy-efficient LED lights. These new lights will provide brighter, more consistent illumination throughout the stadium, improving visibility for spectators while enhancing the overall presentation of athletic events. In addition to creating a better fan experience, the new lighting system is more reliable and energy efficient than our current system.

During portions of the construction, some spring athletic programs may be temporarily relocated. We know this may create some inconvenience for our student-athletes, coaches, and families, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility. We are developing plans to minimize disruptions and will share details well in advance.

Looking Ahead: We'd Love Your Feedback

As part of our long-term vision for Memorial Stadium, we are exploring future field improvements. While synthetic turf was originally planned, evolving conversations across the sports world regarding natural grass versus artificial turf have prompted us to pause this portion of the project.

Before making a final decision, Westminster Public Schools wants to hear from the people who matter most: our community. Our goal is to create a facility that provides an outstanding experience for both the fans in the stands and the student-athletes on the field.

Please take our brief, 4-question survey to share your thoughts on the playing surface and what factors—such as safety, environment, and playability—matter most to you. Your feedback will directly inform our investment in the stadium's future.
